The Robert Day Sciences Center at Claremont McKenna College features a signage and wayfinding system by GHD Partners, designed to help students, faculty, and visitors navigate the building’s unique architecture.
With its rotating geometry and non-linear layout, the building presented an interesting wayfinding challenge. GHD Partners expanded the college’s existing signage system by introducing building and floor maps at key points throughout the space, making it easier to find laboratories, classrooms, and social areas without competing with the architecture.
Materials and finishes were carefully selected to complement the building’s interiors, allowing the signage to feel like a natural extension of the architecture and the Claremont McKenna College identity.
The environmental graphics also include an extensive donor recognition system, with typography and installations appearing at different scales throughout the Sciences Center. Together, wayfinding, signage, and donor graphics create a clear and cohesive system within a complex architectural environment.
