W Hotel, Hong Kong

FOD designed a series of key environmental graphic for the W Hotel, in Hong Kong.

When Starwood’s W Hotel, decided to open another hotel in Kowloon, Hong Kong with Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd (SHKP), Fabio Ongarato Design (FOD) was engaged to collaborate with the interior design team to design the environmental graphics, installations and to manage the curation of  a contemporary art collection to integrate into the interiors.

FOD developed a comprehensive visual language based on reinterpreted fantasy and enchantment to bring a bold design dimension to this new W Hotel. Collaborating over an 18 month period – from concept to completion – with Australian interior design firm, Nicholas Graham & Associates; and Tokyo-based designers, Glamorous.

FOD devised a series of key environmental graphic features across hotel interiors, guest rooms, restaurants and the 76th floor pool deck where the mosaic mural, consisting of hundreds of thousands of Bisazza tiles, is realized. FOD also developed an art strategy in collaboration with Amanda Love featuring artists such as Kultung Ataman, Lee Bul, Michael Parekowhai and Jennifer Steinkamp.
